Two different assessments

HSK measures Chinese; CSCA reflects academic readiness

HSK

HSK = proof of Chinese proficiency

HSK is the Chinese Proficiency Test used to show whether a student’s Chinese meets university requirements. Many Chinese-taught degrees require HSK 4 or above, depending on the university and major.

HSK 1
HSK 2
HSK 3
HSK 4
HSK 5

HSK 4 is the primary Foundation Year learning target, not a guaranteed result.

CSCA

Chinese is essential, but students must also be ready for university study.

CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) focuses on the academic preparation needed for undergraduate study.

MathematicsSubject-specific ChinesePhysicsOther subjects

Subjects depend on the university, major, language of instruction and admissions year.
